The Bell Named One of the Best UK Hotels for Walking & Hiking 2021

We are delighted to share that The Bell at Skenfrith has been included in the Good Hotel Guide’s Best UK Hotels for Walking and Hiking.

The Good Hotel Guide celebrates hotels that combine comfort, character and excellent food with access to some of the UK’s most beautiful walking country. From the rolling hills of Monmouthshire to the dramatic peaks of Snowdonia, the guide highlights places where guests can enjoy the outdoors and return to a warm welcome, a roaring fire and delicious meals.

Set beside a stone bridge on the banks of the River Monnow, The Bell is perfectly located for exploring this peaceful corner of South Wales. Guests can follow a network of circular walks from our door, through bluebell woods, along rivers and past the ruins of Skenfrith Castle. Many visitors come to walk, enjoy the fresh air and then relax by the fire with a glass of wine or a hearty supper.

The Good Hotel Guide describes The Bell as “standing sentinel over the small village of Skenfrith amid the lovely, languid hills of Monmouthshire” and praises our “mouthwatering array of dishes” and “pleasant, warm and efficient vibe.” Our eleven individually designed bedrooms, all named after fishing flies, offer views over the garden, river or hills. With soft colours, Welsh fabrics and a mix of vintage and contemporary furnishings, they are the perfect place to rest after a day exploring the countryside.

For walkers with dogs, the Bell offers a Pooch Parlour for a post-walk wash and a drying room for muddy boots and coats. Whether you come for a country stroll, a longer hike or simply to enjoy the tranquillity of the riverbank, The Bell provides a warm welcome, great food and a peaceful retreat.
