We are absolutely delighted to share that The Bell at Skenfrith has been awarded a Good Hotel Guide César Award for Welsh Inn of the Year 2022. This is one of the most respected and independent hotel awards in the country, and we are honoured to have been recognised among such outstanding company.
The Good Hotel Guide describes The Bell as “standing sentinel over the small village of Skenfrith amid the lovely, languid hills of Monmouthshire” and praises our “mouthwatering array of dishes” and “pleasant, warm and efficient vibe.” It is wonderful to see our riverside inn celebrated for its charm, atmosphere and hospitality.
The review highlights our blend of historic character and modern comfort, noting the oak beams, exposed stonework and soft, natural colours that create a calm and welcoming setting. Guests can enjoy drinks in our impressively stocked bar or take in the views from the garden sitting area, a favourite spot for evening aperitifs beside the River Monnow.
We are especially proud of the kind words about our team, led by our ever-present manager Maria, whose warmth and care help to make every guest feel at home. The review also celebrates the skill and dedication of our kitchen, where locally sourced ingredients and Welsh produce take centre stage in dishes such as pan-roast lamb cutlets, slow braised shoulder with confit potatoes and Wye Valley asparagus.
Our eleven bedrooms, named after fishing flies, were described as “roomy and comfortable” with “gleaming, sophisticated bathrooms” and a sense of “relaxation and calm.” With views over the garden, river or hills, each room has its own character while offering everything guests need for a peaceful stay.
Winning the César Award is a real milestone for us, and we are deeply grateful to our guests, our team and our community for their continued support. This recognition is a reflection of the care and passion that go into making The Bell at Skenfrith such a special place to visit.
Whether you come for a long weekend, a country walk and lunch, or simply to sit by the fire with a glass of wine, we look forward to welcoming you soon.
